From September 2017, Droichead is the sole route to Induction for NQTs in SEN settings and in large post primary schools of 700 or more students and in large primary schools of 24 (or more) classroom teachers.
NQTs who are engaging in the Droichead process must attend one 2-hour cluster meeting per term for the duration of their Droichead process.

It was a great honour for Blackrock Education Centre to host Minister of State for Higher Education, Ms Mary Mitchell O'Connor, TD, to officially launch TEST2r on Friday, 16th June, 2017.

The creator of TEST2r, Dr Pauline Cogan, was given deserved accolades for her work and she spoke of the difference this will make to future generations of children in our schools.

The National Induction Programme for Teachers (NIPT), a cross-sectoral support service for newly qualified teachers (NQTs) under the remit of the Teacher Education Section of the Department of Education and Skills, from time to time, have  opportunities for the position of local facilitators and associates.
An associate is a registered teacher, who is engaged to work in a part-time capacity (20 days) with NIPT to complement and extend the capacity of the service.  Local facilitators may engage in similar work for up to 6 days a year.

The entire nation is invited to take time out and to ‘Drop Everything and Read’ for 20 minutes at 12 noon on Friday April 29th 2016.    

Organised by the JCSP Demonstration Library Project, in collaboration with Poetry Ireland,  the simple but very effective idea is to promote the importance of literacy and reading for pleasure, by having as many people as possible read at the same time on the same day.

Work will be put down, computer screens will be turned off, and everyone will be encouraged to pick up a book, magazine, newspaper, e-book, audio book, etc. and to read quietly, or indeed be read to, for 20 minutes.

Temple Carrig School, Greystones will host its inaugural Teach Meet on Wednesday, 27th April at 7.30pm.

A Teach Meet is an evening where teachers can share examples of good practice, irrespective of curriculum or school.  This event is open to educators working in the second level system.
It is hoped to be a fun evening and an opportunity to examine and share some inspiring resources available to all teachers.

The inaugural meeting for the Erasmus+ Project STEM: Engineers of the Future took place in Blackrock Education Centre on April 12th/13th.  The project involves schools and education authorities in Sanliurfa (Turkey) and Valdere (Italy); Knocklyon Community School; CESI and Blackrock Education Centre

Manifesto writing is a way to imagine different worlds.
“Creating the Manifesto” is a project for young people. Over four days during Easter 2016, participants will create their own manifestos. They will devise and write personal manifestos at the dlr LexIcon, Dun Laoghaire, and then use these texts to design and print letterpress posters at the National Print Museum, Beggars Bush, Dublin 4.
This is an active, practical and fun 4 day project incorporating creative writing, design and print, during which participants will also find out about historical manifestos, including the 1916 Proclamation.
