Calling all gardeners to revive our Meitheal in Marian’s Wood.
On March 18th, from 12.00 till 3.00, Paddy Madden will lead us in an assault on the briars and undergrowth that have been encroaching in the wood. Bring along cutting implements (secateurs, loppers, slashers) as well as spades to dig out the briars and other undesirables.
We’ll also be planting snowdrops, so bring a trowel. We’ll have sandwiches and tea/coffee for all (so please! let us know if you are coming).
We haven’t forgotten the rugby. You’ll be home in good time for the Ireland match at 5.00!

The AGM of Blackrock Education Centre will take place on Tuesday, 14th March, 2017 in the Centre premises at Kill Avenue, Dún Laoghaire, Co Dublin at 7.30 pm
All members of the local education community are invited to attend.
Reports will be given by the Chairperson and Director and the Treasurer will present the audited accounts for 2016.

ICT is an integral part of teaching learning and assessment, however as young pupils become citizens of the digital community, they need to be guided and facilitated in behaving responsibly online and developing good judgement when interacting with others.
This course will focus on supporting teachers in helping pupils explore their rights and responsibilities as digital citizens.
Course Objectives

  • To explore what is meant by being a digital citizen
  • To understand the importance of managing yourself in an online world

Welcome back to the Write a Book Project!
The project will go ahead with no changes from last year.  
There will be a letter going out to primary schools shortly.  If you have committed to participate, please make a note of the dates and send your registration form and payment as soon as possible.  Dates for this year's Write a Book project:

The inaugural Education Centre Regional Research Conference takes place in Drumcondra Education Centre on Saturday October 22nd. 
The theme is “Research Improving Leadership, Teaching and Learning “.  This is a joint project between Blackrock, Drumcondra, Dublin West, Kildare, Laois, Monaghan and Navan.  Admission is free for teachers.  With concurrent sessions for primary and post-primary, admission will be free for teachers.

As part of Maths Week 2016, Blackrock Education Centre is delighted to host again the celebrated educationalist Becky Warren from the NRICH Centre in Cambridge University.  
The NRICH Project aims to enrich the mathematical experiences of all learners. To support this aim, providing professional development for teachers wishing to embed rich mathematical tasks into everyday classroom practice.

Ireland's educators and students have been to the for in celebrating Code Week since it began in 2013.  This year the Centre continues this tradition with 2 courses
Cracking Code  is hands-on workshopll exploring some basic programming and is suitable for Primary Teachers and Second Level up to Junior Cert. More details here
MindRising  is about t using digital storytelling skills across a range of media and provides an an introduction to using  Minecraft in the classroom.  More details here

Droichead Post Primary Cluster Meetings
Droichead Cluster Meeting 1, which is a compulsory element of Strand B, will take place in Blackrock Education Centre on
Tuesday  04th October from 19.00 - 21.00
From September 2016 NQTs who are engaging in the Droichead process must attend one Cluster Meeting (2 hour duration) per term while undertaking the process. 
A minimum of 3 Cluster Meetings will be available each year.
All NQTs must attend Cluster Meeting 1 before attending Cluster 2/3.

It is a Teaching Council registration requirement for all NQTs who have completed their initial teacher education since July 2012 to participate in the NIPT Workshop or Droichead Programme. NQTs have three years from their initial date of registration with the Teaching Council to complete the NIPT workshop programme.
