PDST are delighted to provide a one-day Child Protection seminar (primary). All newly-appointed Designated Liaison Persons (DLP) and Deputy Designated Liaison Persons (DDLP) are advised to attend this event to gain clarity on their role and an understanding of staff responsibilities under the Child Protection Guidelines and Procedures. Attendance at the seminar is limited to Designated Liaison Persons (or Deputy DLPs) who have been appointed in recent years and as a result have not availed of this training to date. The content of the seminar will be based on the Children First Guidelines and DES Child Protection Procedures and will include key information and updated requirements for schools in the area of Child Protection. Stretching all Learners NIPTWS07 This workshop emphasises the need to cater for the variety of Learners within the classroom and provides subject specific samples and ideas for resources to ensure that all learners are stretched in their learning within the classroom. NQTs are afforded an opportunity to discuss a variety of scenarios that arise in the classroom and are encouraged to reflect on and discuss effective strategies. Challenging learners across the full spectrum, e.g. providing extension activities are included. References to key websites for resources are important elements of this workshop.

Inclusion (Cross?Sectoral) NIPTWS13 This interactive workshop will focus on the classroom environment and classroom planning to support inclusion. NQTs will be given an opportunity to reflect on their own individual values, behaviours and attitudes which will determine inclusive practice in their classrooms. Emphasis will be placed on how to develop strategies to ensure that pupils/students with special educational needs are included.

Child Protection and Safety NIPTWS10 This workshop is informed by Circular 0065/11 (DES), Child Protection Procedures for Primary and Post-Primary Schools (DES: 2011) and the guidelines on Well-Being in Post-Primary Schools (2013). Key responsibilities for teachers with regard to child protection and safety are outlined, including dealing with disclosures, route of referral, and procedures for reporting and recording.

The focus of the course will be primarily on teaching the sex education elements of RSE from Senior Infants to Sixth class, in the context of Social, Personal and Health Education. The course will be experiential and practical in its approach. The seminar will include: • An overview of RSE as an aspect of SPHE • The role and function of an RSE policy • Methodologies for teaching RSE • Creating a safe classroom environment The course will take place over two afternoons; it is necessary for the same teacher to attend on both afternoons.
