NCAD 100 Thomas Street Dublin 2
This summer course is open to both second level Art and Primary teachers. Over the five days of the course participants will explore numeracy and literacy through the craft of Calligraphy. Participants will experiment with and master a variety of calligraphic scripts. Participants will practice and execute the formal ‘book hands’ (alphabets) and use illustration and embellishment in their calligraphic pieces.Participants will explore how calligraphy can be used as a creative collaborative tool in developing Literacy and/or Numeracy themed projects. Assessment of art work and self-evaluation tools will be examined during the summer course. The Calligraphy course will take place in the School of Education in the National College of Art and Design.

This course is aimed at schools and teachers interested in developing the skills required to create and use ICT resources which support all subjects with particular reference to literacy and numeracy. The resources will be created for use across a number of technologies.

The theme of this course is ‘Promoting Positive Behaviours for Learning and for Life’. The content will include an overview of classroom practices to promote good behavior, a set of tools to monitor and evaluate behavior for ‘target children’ in the classroom, and a repertoire of responses to reduce and eliminate unwanted behaviours
