This training day is aimed at teachers and other school leaders who would like to build their understanding of, and ability to respond to, the needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) students. Practical and concrete resources will be used that can be transferred to the school setting. The training will be carried out in the context of the Health Promoting Schools Initiative with the aim of ensuring healthy and positive school climate and culture. This workshop will be run over two sessions and is suitable for teachers of junior Cycle Day 1 of 2 When you book for Day 1 session, you are also booked for Day 2.(Day 1 15TH October &Day 2 is the 5th of November 2015. These workshops aim to support teachers in teaching mathematics using a child-centred approach which focuses primarily on conceptual understanding. Each week we will look at various assessment methods that will be explored using modern, online tools. We will offer a hands-on exploration of Padlet, Socrative, Get Kahoot, Cube Creator, EdPuzzle, EdModo and Blendspace, to name but a few. While these tools may mean nothing to you now, they can afford you an amazing opportunity to assess your students in a new, exciting way.

Professional Credit Award (Leading Learning) The Professional Credit Award (Leading Learning) at NUI Galway is designed to accredit learning across a range of teacher Continuing Professional Development (CPD) modules. These modules (10ECTS/credits) may be school-based CPD, short courses in Education Centres linked to classroom practice, or equivalent, across the curriculum. Ultimately link teachers decide on the agenda and focus of future meetings according to the needs of the group and decide to work collaboratively on a common area of interest/concern. The purpose of this two hour workshop is to introduce participants to the 5 components of effective oral langauge instruction. Emphasis will be placed on the key strategies that teachers will use in their day-to-day interactions with pupils to promote and develop language learning across a variety of contexts. A structured approach to teaching the components of effective oral language instruction will be presented. To provide an overview of the five components of effective oral language instruction. To inform teachers about current research findings on how children learn to speak and listen. To explore a number of strategies which promote langauge learning, which teachers can use in their day to day interactions with pupils.

A guide to lots of online tools for education that are free and need only a browser … then store all your work in the cloud and access it from anywhere on any computer or device. Tools explored include Blendspace, Kizoa, Animoto, Magisto, Google Slides, Sway, Couldconvert, pdfmerge and many more. This is a hands-on course in the IT room but teachers (of any subjects) are encouraged to bring their own devices as well.

We will look at a number of practical, classroom based activities to help your pupils explore this exciting time in Irish History.
