Many Irish schools have chosen Problem-Solving as their next area of focus in School Self-evaluation of numeracy. However, many teachers find teaching problem-solving difficult, especially in a way that deepens their pupils’ mathematical thinking. Our challenge is to ensure that even in a busy classroom that math is:
• set in meaningful contexts,
• enjoyable and engaging,
• differentiated suitably to ensure success while still being challenging,
• supporting the development of higher order thinking and skills,
• and more enjoyable to teach!
