Action for Life is a health related physical activity resource for primary schools designed to support teachers with the roll-out of their PE programme. Action for Life is supported by the Department of Education and Skills and the Health Service Executive. There are four manuals, one for each of the four class levels; Junior & Senior Infants; First & Second Class; Third & Fourth Class; Fifth & Sixth Class. The resource reflects both the PE and SPHE curricula with a focus on the strands of athletics, dance and gymnastics. Adaptations for those with differing abilities are included within the activities. The teacher training is a 1.5 hour practical workshop that takes teachers through Action for Life and how it is delivered in the classroom in a fun and experiential way.

Using your school garden can be a challenge as well as keeping it productive and aesthetically pleasing. This course meets over 4 Saturdays throughout the year to help you make the most of your garden through the different seasons. Meet and work alongside our Airfield experts that will help you to explore the possibilities in your school garden and nurture the nature within it. Meet and learn from like-minded teachers and grow yourself and your gardening skills! Dates are October 14th 2017,18th November 2017, 10th March 2018 & 14th April 2018 from 10.00am – 1.00pm in Airfield Estate.

Aladdin is hosting a focus group on Monday 4th December at 9:30am at the Blackrock Education Centre and invite primary school principals who are familiar with the Aladdin software give input on a new Aladdin offering that will simplify communication with parents. The session is free for primary school principals to attend and will last 90 minutes. Aladdin is known as ‘The software behind great schools’ that supports government, principals, teachers and parents in realising every child’s potential and serves 420,000 primary school children’s learning in over 2,000 schools.

Multi-Grade Teaching in the Primary School NIPTWS14 This interactive workshop focuses on four main areas from a multi-grade perspective: differentiation, teaching methodologies, classroom management and planning. Opportunities are afforded NQTs to engage with a variety of methodologies throughout the workshop. Strategies and resources for NQTs subbing in multi-grade settings are explored.

Transition From Primary to Post-Primary School NIPTWS12 This workshop will focus on the practical skills and strategies that can be of support to students as they move from a primary classroom to a post-primary classroom. A primary and post-primary facilitator will be present and will give valuable insights into the many transitions that occur in the context of supporting and making the best connections with curricula, teaching learning and social and emotional needs.

The seminar will present ideas about the principles and practices of action research. Participants will benefit from discussion of what action research is, how to do it, why to do it and some of the problematics involved. It will also consider ideas about how and why to write action research for publication. The seminar will be interactive with a range of practical activities to show the processes of research in action. Jean McNiff is Professor of Educational Research at York St John University. She worked for 20 years in Ireland and contributed to seminal thinking about the nature of the ongoing professional education of teachers. What areas will the workshop cover? Individual Education Planning (IEP) rationale IEP content and process IEP writing and reviewing The workshop will include input on Individual Education Plans for pupils with special educational needs. It will highlight the on-line and face-to-face supports available from NIPT and NCSE-SESS. A practical activity-based approach underpins the workshop.
