Key elements of the workshop include a discussion on the concept of differentiation, the role of the teacher and the practical implementation of a number of differentiation strategies. The Professional Development Service for Teachers (PDST) in conjunction with Blackrock Education Centre invites you to nominate a Special Educational Needs teacher and one other teacher (maximum) from your school to attend a one day seminar. This seminar will explore how team-teaching can be used to meet the literacy needs of pupils in the mainstream classroom. Key components of the seminar content will include; inclusion, identifying pupil priority learning needs, models of team teaching and literacy strategies.

Target Group: Year heads in schools, and those aspiring to the position of year head. The course will: • Support teachers in defining and establishing their role as year head • Provide a range of template administration/support files • Support teachers in developing a strong year head and class tutor team • Explore strategies to help teachers manage time effectively • Offer a range of strategies to help teachers support positive behaviour in their year groups • Enable teachers to support pastoral care within the year group, including dealing with difficult students. • Help teachers develop effective skills and skills for conflict management.

• This course would benefit participants in the following areas: Leadership People Management Skills Career Progression Navigating difficult conversations • This course will be accredited through the Association of Coaching (the AC) • On completion, all participants will be eligible for affiliate membership of the AC and those with sufficient Coaching experience will be able to apply for full coaching accreditation. Dates: The course will run for 7 weeks on Tuesday evenings from 6.30pm – 9.30pm. Starting 23rd January 2018 until 13th March (1 week break 12th February for mid-term) Further information will be available at the Principals and Deputy Principals coffee morning on 15th November here in the Centre from 11.00am. A key component of the workshop will be exploring the use of a variety of reading procedures, skills and comprehension strategies.

Content Based Literacy NIPTWS08 In this workshop the focus for NQTs will be on the skills and strategies that can be used in different classrooms. Using the format of Before, During and After Learning, the NQTs will examine different activities to support literacy development in all subjects. Materials from PDST, SESS and NBSS are all referenced in the workshop.
