Register for a free training workshop SEAI will offer training workshops for schools, which will be kindly hosted by Education Centres around the country in spring 2018. Workshops are open to all primary, special and post-primary schools. Any representative that the school nominates can attend. Feedback from participants last year was very positive and the majority completed their reports during the two-hour workshop. The workshops are designed to aid full compliance with the legislation and assist users to: • Learn how to use SEAI’s online system • Learn how to successfully report energy usage • Report the actions taken to reduce consumption • Understand the features and benefits of the online system • Meet peers from other schools going through the same process

Behaviour for Learning NIPTWS09 This workshop builds on the Classroom Management workshop by focusing on teaching behaviour(s) essential for learning. The Behavioural, Emotional and Social Difficulties: A Continuum of Support -Guidelines for Teachers (NEPS: 2010) is a key reference for this workshop which aims to give NQTs an understanding of the Classroom Support Process and the development and use of Individual Behaviour Support Plans. Relevant case studies and resources will be examined and participants’ own concerns will also be explored.

CANCELLED Exploring Learning NIPTWS05 This workshop at its essence will explore what it is to be a learner. It will reconnect with the NQTs understanding of themselves as a learner as developed at ITE and emphasise t h e impact that the teacher has on students learning. A virtual class will be used by NQTs to help them to investigate the different learning styles students have and adapt their methodologies to meet these needs. Particular emphasis will be placed on the learning profile of students with SEN.

Target Group: Teachers who currently hold or aspire to positions of leadership in post primary schools The course which will be run over three evening sessions (each of 2.5 hours duration) will address the following themes: • Defining Middle Leadership • Models of Leadership and their application • Leading change • Establishing and creating a vision for the role of middle leader • Leading teams • Planning • Motivating • Managing meetings • Managing Workload • Managing conflict • Preparing for Interviews The course will have a practical focus and will provide opportunities for participants to engage in discussion and share good practice.

This course will introduce teachers to a new online resource for specially designed for primary music education. Using a range of free interactive online resources we will look at all areas of the primary school curriculum. Participants will become familiar with the dabbledoomusic.com website and it's technical setup in the classroom, gain experience with a range of simple classroom instruments and learn how to organise group performance and composition in the classroom. This course is designed to be accessible and engaging for all primary school teachers regardless of prior musical experience.

• This course would benefit participants in the following areas: Leadership People Management Skills Career Progression Navigating difficult conversations • This course will be accredited through the Association of Coaching (the AC) • On completion, all participants will be eligible for affiliate membership of the AC and those with sufficient Coaching experience will be able to apply for full coaching accreditation. Dates: The course will run for 7 weeks on Tuesday evenings from 6.30pm – 9.30pm. Starting 23rd January 2018 until 13th March (1 week break 12th February for mid-term) Further information will be available at the Principals and Deputy Principals coffee morning on 15th November here in the Centre from 11.00am. Cost: Full price €600.00

A collaborative event between Blackrock Education Centre and Sustainable Energy Ireland, typical annual savings of participant schools have been in the order of 10% - 20%. Aimed towards principals or other members of management, involves two half-day workshops where schools are given access to a range of resources and expert advice. Places are extremely limited, participants must commit to attendance at both workshops and must submit utility bills to the facilitator in advance. There is no need to book Workshop 2 as you will be automatically registered for this event on 17th April

Learn a variety of tips and tricks for YouTube, along with many lesser known but very useful YouTube features. This will be a hands on course and topics will include embedding YouTube videos in Powerpoint presentations, recording clips from longer YouTube videos, the online safety features in YouTube, gathering YouTube videos in Blendspace, educational features in YouTube and much more.

The aims of the workshop are to: • Examine the principles of guiding a reading session (before, during, after reading) • Explore guidelines for literacy and children with SEN • Analyse a video of balanced practice • Apply the principles of guided reading to children with SEN using a sample case study. • Collaboratively prepare a reading session using complete texts.
