
The Reading Association of Ireland (RAI) has organised a Spring Seminar, which will take place on Wednesday, March 25th next, Blackrock Education Centre at 4.30 p.m. The seminar, facilitated by Mark Fennell, is for both primary and post-primary. It will look at literacy in the context of active learning pedagogies, with a specific focus on embedding oracy and, in particular, dialogue, across the curriculum. It will link this to the core aim of promotion of self-efficacy as a foundation for continued learning capacity.

Mark Fennell is a former teacher of English in St Kilian’s Community School, Bray, vice-principal at St. Thomas’s Community College, Bray; and principal at Presentation College, Glasthule and St Raphaela’s Secondary School, Stillorgan. For 8 years (2001-2009), he was seconded to the Department of Education and Skills as Regional Coordinator for the School Development Planning Initiative. Mark currently tutors on the Professional Masters in Education course and lectures on M.Ed. in UCD; He also lectures part-time on the Leadership and Management in Education module of M.Ed. course and act as thesis supervisor in TCD; he acts as an adviser to JMB on curriculum and assessment and as a consultant / facilitator with trustees and schools in diverse areas including formative assessment, learning, teaching, leadership and school self-evaluation. Mark is a director of the Des Places Education Association, Chair of the Board of Management of Templeogue College and a member of the Boards of Management of Mount Anville Secondary School and St. Raphaela’s Primary School.
