NCCA Primary Developments - December 2020 Nollaig

Primary Developments

Bunfhorbairtí

December 2020 Nollaig

Welcome to the latest edition of the e-bulletin in the 'Primary Developments' series. A lot has happened since our last e-bulletin which issued in May. Since then and through the commitment and dedication of school leaders, teachers, Boards of Management, SNAs, parents and children as well as those who support schools, primary schools re-opened and remained open supporting children’s learning across the curriculum. Given these unprecedented times and the challenging circumstances school communities are working within, NCCA has altered the timeline for the consultation on the Draft Primary Curriculum Framework. More information about this amendment is outlined below in the video. Thank you to all those who have contributed to the consultation to date.

Fáilte chuig an leagan is déanaí den ríomhfheasachán sa tsraith ‘Bunfhorbairtí’. Tá go leor rudaí tar éis tarlú ón ríomhfheasachán deireanach a eisíodh i mí na Bealtaine. Ó shin i leith agus a bhuí lena dhíograisí agus a thiomanta atá ceannairí scoile, múinteoirí, Boird Bainistíochta, cúntóirí riachtanas speisialta, tuismitheoirí agus páistí chomh maith leo siúd a thacaíonn le scoileanna, d’athoscail na bunscoileanna agus d’fhan siad oscailte ag tacú le foghlaim páistí ar fud an churaclaim. Ní fhacthas a leithéid seo riamh cheana agus i bhfianaise na gcúinsí dúshlánacha a bhfuil pobail scoile ag obair iontu, tá CNCM tar éis an amlíne don chomhairliúchán ar Dhréachtchreat Curaclaim na Bunscoile a athrú. Tugtar tuilleadh faisnéise faoin leasú sin san fhíseán thíos. Gabhaimid buíochas le gach duine a bhí rannpháirteach sa chomhairliúchán go dtí seo.

Consultation update
Nuashonrú maidir leis an gcomhairliúchán

While some strands of the consultation on the Draft Primary Curriculum Framework are ongoing, this is in the full acknowledgment that many education stakeholders, including teachers, school leaders, children and parents may not be in a position to participate during this school year. Including these voices in the consultation is a priority for NCCA. Therefore, we will complete the current phase of consultation at the end of 2020 and re-engage with school communities in the 2021 - 2022 school year as part of a second phase of consultation. Watch the video above to hear about this consultation update.

Cé go bhfuiltear fós ag leanúint de shnáitheanna áirithe den chomhairliúchán ar Dhréachtchreat Curaclaim na Bunscoile, tuigtear go rímhaith go bhféadfaidh sé nach mbeidh go leor páirtithe leasmhara oideachais, lena n-áirítear múinteoirí, ceannairí scoile, páistí agus tuismitheoirí, in ann cur leis an scoilbhliain seo. Is tosaíocht de chuid CNCM é na guthanna sin a chuimsiú sa chomhairliúchán. Dá bhrí sin, cuirfimid an chéim reatha den chomhairliúchán i gcrích ag deireadh 2020 agus déanfaimid teagmháil arís le pobail scoile sa scoilbhliain 2021–2022 mar chuid den dara céim den chomhairliúchán. Féach ar an bhfíseán thuas chun cloisteáil faoin nuashonrú seo maidir leis an gcomhairliúchán.

Consultation events
Imeachtaí comhairliúcháin

In keeping with the consultation changes outlined above, NCCA is continuing to hold a series of bilateral meetings with the education stakeholders to discuss and gather feedback on the key proposals in the draft framework. Over the last number of months, NCCA has held online information sessions providing an overview of the draft framework and the consultation process. The final one took place on December 9. We’ve also developed a 30-minute webinar based on the online information sessions. The webinar is available to view here.

Ag teacht leis na hathruithe comhairliúcháin a dtugtar cuntas orthu thuas, tá CNCM ag leanúint de shraith cruinnithe déthaobhacha a reáchtáil leis na páirtithe leasmhara oideachais chun na príomh-mholtaí sa dréachtchreat a phlé agus aiseolas orthu a bhailiú. Le roinnt míonna anuas, reáchtáil CNCM seisiúin faisnéise ar líne inar tugadh léargas ar an dréachtchreat agus ar an bpróiseas comhairliúcháin. Reáchtáladh an ceann deireanach ar an 9 Nollaig. D’fhorbraíomar seimineár gréasáin 30 nóiméad freisin bunaithe ar na seisiúin faisnéise ar líne. Tá an seimineár gréasáin ar fáil anseo.

Supporting schools during COVID-19
Ag tacú le scoileanna i rith thréimhse COVID-19

NCCA is hosting a series of live webinars to support teachers and school leaders in working with the Primary School Curriculum during the pandemic. The initial November 24 and December 3 webinars focused on using the outdoor learning environment. In the first webinar, we heard from Associate Professor, Orla Kelly, DCU and Ms. Joan Whelan, Chairperson of the Irish Forest School Association about how the outdoors can be used to support teaching and learning. In the second webinar, we heard from Ms. Jacqueline Curley (Teacher, Knocknacarra NS) and Ms. Siobhán Fitzgerald (Principal, Eglish NS), who shared some of their experiences of working with the curriculum in the outdoors. Thank you to all those who attended the live webinars. Recordings of both webinars are now available to watch on the NCCA website. The focus in early 2021 will be on assessment.

Tá sraith de sheimineáir ghréasáin bheo á hóstáil ag CNCM chun cuidiú le múinteoirí agus le ceannairí scoile atá ag oibriú le Curaclam na Bunscoile le linn na paindéime. Sna chéad seimineáir ghréasáin a reáchtáladh ar an 24 Samhain agus ar an 3 Nollaig, díríodh ar an timpeallacht foghlama lasmuigh a úsáid. Sa chéad seimineár gréasáin, chualamar ón Ollamh Comhlach Orla Kelly, Ollscoil Chathair Bhaile Átha Cliath, agus Joan Whelan, Cathaoirleach Chumann Scoileanna Foraoise na hÉireann, faoin gcaoi ar féidir an spás amuigh faoin aer a úsáid chun tacú leis an teagasc agus leis an bhfoghlaim. Sa dara seimineár gréasáin, chualamar ó Jacqueline Curley (Múinteoir, SN Chnoc na Cathrach) agus ó Shiobhán Fitzgerald (Príomhoide, SN na hEaglaise), beirt a roinn a dtaithí féin ar oibriú leis an gcuraclam amuigh faoin spéir. Gabhaimid buíochas le gach duine a d’fhreastail ar na seimineáir gréasáin bheo. Tá taifead den dá sheimineár gréasáin le fáil ar shuíomh gréasáin CNCM anois. Beifear ag díriú ar an measúnú ag tús 2021.

'Children's School Lives' study
An staidéar 'Saol Scoile Páistí'

Children's School Lives is an exciting and unique research study being undertaken by UCD and funded by the NCCA. It follows 4,000 children in 189 schools through their primary school years in order to learn about their school experiences. Two reports from the study are published today. The Year One Report introduces us to the children and schools behind Children’s School Lives while a second report ‘Experiences of Remote Teaching and Learning in Ireland During the COVID-19 Pandemic (March – May 2020)' provides insights into the impact of the extended school closure earlier this year on children, parents, teachers and school leaders. Watch the video above to find out more. You can read the reports by visiting www.cslstudy.ie or follow the research @cslstudyUCD on Twitter.

Is staidéir taighde spreagúil agus uathúil é Saol Scoile Páistí atá ar bun ag an gColáiste Ollscoile, Baile Átha Cliath agus atá á mhaoiniú ag CNCM. Leanann sé 4,000 páiste i 189 scoil i rith bhlianta na bunscoile d’fhonn foghlaim faoina n-eispéiris scoile. Tá dhá thuarascáil ón staidéar á bhfoilsiú inniu. Tugann Tuarascáil Bhliain a hAon léargas dúinn ar na páistí agus ar na scoileanna atá taobh thiar de Shaol Scoile Páistí agus tugann an dara tuarascáil, Experiences of Remote Teaching and Learning in Ireland During the COVID-19 Pandemic (March – May 2020), léargas ar thionchar dhúnadh fada na scoileanna níos luaithe i mbliana ar pháistí, tuismitheoirí, múinteoirí agus ceannairí scoile. Féach ar an bhfíseán thuas chun tuilleadh a fhoghlaim. Is féidir na tuarascálacha a léamh ach cuairt a thabhairt ar www.cslstudy.ie nó an taighde a leanúint ag @cslstudyUCD ar Twitter.
