Information for schools  regarding Children First Awareness Week:

Under the Children First Act 2015, certain people who work with children have additional legal obligations. These are known as Mandated Persons. If you are a Mandated Person, you are obliged to report to Tusla social work department any knowledge, belief, or reasonable suspicion that a child has been harmed, is being harmed or is at risk of being harmed. The Child Protection Procedures for Primary and Post-primary Schools 2017 give clear direction and guidance to school management and school personnel in relation to meeting the statutory obligations under the Children First Act, 2015 and in the continued implementation within the school setting of the best practice guidance set out in the updated Children First: National Guidance for the Protection and Welfare of Children.

You may wish to advise parents through the schools communications channels of this, using the below.

Children First Awareness Week is taking place from 1st to 7th November 2021. Children First promotes the protection of children from abuse and neglect, by setting out what individuals and organisations need to do to keep children safe, and how to deal with concerns about a child’s safety or welfare. Society has a duty of care towards children, and everyone should be alert to the possibility that children they are in contact with may be abused or at risk of abuse or neglect. If you are concerned about a child or young person, you should contact Tusla social work department. Organisations classed as providers of relevant services under the Children First Act 2015 are required to complete a risk assessment and must have a Child Safeguarding Statement in place. More information on keeping children safe in our communities is available at gov.ie/childrenfirst

Faoin Acht um Leanaí ar dTús 2015, tá dualgais dhlíthiúla breise ar dhaoine áirithe a oibríonn le leanaí. Tugtar Daoine Sainordaithe orthu seo. Más Duine Sainordaithe tú, tá sé de dhualgas ort aon eolas, tuairim nó amhras réasúnach go ndearnadh dochar do leanbh, go bhfuiltear ag déanamh dochair do leanbh nó go bhfuil leanbh i mbaol dochair a thuairisciú do roinn oibre sóisialta Tusla. Tá treoir agus comhairle shoiléir ar fáil do bhainistíocht scoileanna agus do phearsanra scoileanna sna Nósanna Imeachta um Chosaint Leanaí do Bhunscoileanna agus Iar-Bhunscoileanna 2017 maidir le comhlíonadh na ndualgas reachtúla faoin Acht um Leanaí ar dTús, 2015 agus maidir le dea-chleachtas a chur i bhfeidhm go leanúnach i suíomh na scoile mar atá leagtha amach sa treoir nuashonraithe Leanaí ar dTús: Treoir Náisiúnta um Chosaint agus Leas Leanaí.

B’fhéidir gur mhaith leat a chur in iúl do thuismitheoirí faoi seo trí bhealaí cumarsáide na scoile, agus úsáid á bhaint agat as a bhfuil thíos.

Tarlóidh Seachtain Feasachta Leanaí ar dTús ón 1 go dtí an 7 Samhain 2021. Cuireann Leanaí ar dTús cosaint leanaí ó mhí-úsáid agus ó fhaillí chun cinn, trí na rudaí a chaithfidh daoine aonair agus eagraíochtaí a dhéanamh chun leanaí a choinneáil slán, agus conas déileáil le hábhair imní faoi shábháilteacht nó leas linbh. Tá dualgas cúraim ar an tsochaí i leith leanaí, agus ba chóir go mbeadh gach duine san airdeall faoin bhféidearthacht go bhféadfaí mí-úsáid a bhaint as leanaí a bhfuil siad i dteagmháil leo nó go bhféadfaidís a bheith i mbaol mí-úsáide nó faillí. Má tá imní ort faoi leanbh nó duine óg, ba cheart duit teagmháil a dhéanamh le roinn oibre sóisialta Tusla. Caithfidh eagraíochtaí atá mar sholáthraithe seirbhísí ábhartha faoin Acht um Leanaí ar dTús 2015 measúnú riosca a chomhlánú agus ní mór dóibh Ráiteas um Chosaint Leanaí a bheith acu.
