20LC 02 004 - Planning for the ASD child in the Classroom.

An Aistear Tutor and ASD class teacher sharing her experience of teaching an ASD class in a mainstream school.  A two part workshop aimed at developing an understanding of the needs of the ASD child and exploring how to support those needs in a classroom setting. 

Time: 4 - 6 pm 

Part One - “Understanding the ASD child”  Wednesday 26th February 2020 

  • · Understanding the challenges that prevents the ASD child from accessing the curriculum and the wider community.
  • · Exploring the communication factors and the link to behaviour,
  • · Understanding the “Learning Pyramid” (gross motor, sensory, etc.) and its impact on academic learning.

Part Two - “Supporting the ASD child in the classroom” Wednesday 11th March 2020

  • · Understanding the “inclusion” concept and how to effectively plan to support the needs of the ASD child within the classroom setting.
  • · Role of the SNA and SET team in supporting the class teacher.
