Hargreaves and Fink (2006) make a very explicit link between effective leadership and distributed leadership: . . . an ultimate goal of sustainable learning and leadership is that, in time, the vast majority of schools will become authentic and assertive professional learning communities that will constitute the strong cells of system wide improvement. Ultimately, leadership that stays centered on learning and that lasts over time is deliberately distributed leadership that stretches across a school or system, is a genuinely shared responsibility, and is taken as much as given. This is a course that aims to further develop the leadership capacity of teachers. The course will focus on discussion of school leadership, understanding self, curriculum leadership and team building. It is hoped that participants will gain an understanding of the school as an organisation and how its complexity demands a team response. This workshop takes place over 4 consecutive Wednesday's.
