Drop-in Information session on our new Primary tests in English reading and maths, and our new online testing system (DOTS)

 
The Educational Research Centre (ERC) invites primary teachers to an information session in Blackrock Education Centre on  Wednesday, January 23rd from 9:30am – 1pm.

During the session, you can preview our new computer-based test platform (DOTS; Drumcondra Online Testing System) and our new Primary tests in English reading and maths, delivered on paper and on the DOTS platform. The test content and the technology supporting the test delivery were all developed in Ireland, and are specifically designed to meet the needs of Irish schools. 

ERC staff will be available from 9:30am - 1pm, so please call in at any stage during this period to see the tests and ask any questions. Attendees will be able to try the cloud-based system, and see live tests and sample reports.

PDST Health & Wellbeing Team are delighted to offer a range of seminars to support the teaching of SPHE in Post-Primary school. All seminars come with full substitution and are open to all SPHE teachers. It is recommended that teachers complete the Introduction to SPHE prior to attending other courses. The courses are designed to support teachers that are using either the SPHE Syllabus or the Junior Cycle Short Course for SPHE. Full attendance by the same teacher at both days of two day courses is required.

What is Y-PATH PE 4 ME?
Y-PATH (Youth Physical Activity Towards Health) PE 4 ME is a junior cycle post-primary programme which aims to improve physical activity among children and young people through the physical education (PE) module in the school curriculum. The programme is bought to you as a result of a collaboration between the Irish Heart Foundation and Dublin City University.

What is involved in the programme?
The programme is available only to PE teachers. There are two parts to the Y-PATH PE 4 ME programme:
·       A 1-hour online course on the Irish Heart Foundation website www.irishheart.ie which must be completed by teacher before attending the workshop
-      3-hour face to face evening workshop held in Education Centres nationally 
Teachers will then have the ability to implement the Y-PATH PE 4 ME programme into their PE classes. Teachers will be given a Y-PATH resource pack with lesson plans, posters, student journals, as well as access to an online teacher’s portal containing digital resources to assist with lessons.

mind out logoMindOut 2 is a social and emotional wellbeing programme for Senior Cycle students. The programme was first developed in 2004 and has recently been re-developed using up-to date evidence and research and feedback from teachers and students. MindOut 2 is suitable for Transition Year or 5th year pupils (15-18 year olds) and is designed to be implemented within a single 35-40 min class period each week over 12 weeks, using interactive learning methods.

Sub cover is available for this course.  Substitution claims can be made after the course through the DES Online Claims System under the code “Professional Development 2”.  Only post primary teachers on the Department's Registered Teaching Council  payroll will be able to claim substitution.

healthyfoodThe Healthy Food Made Easy (HFME) Programme is a basic nutrition and cookery course that encourages healthy eating, improves knowledge of nutrition for making easy to cook meals and teaches the skill of preparing meals on a budget. The course content is based on the most up-to-date healthy eating guidelines from the Department of Health. This course fits ideally with Junior Cycle Wellbeing and Transition Year programmes.

Irish Heart Foundation’s CPR 4 Schools programme is an innovative programme designed for post-primary schools. It is quick and easy programme that equips teachers with the skills to deliver the training to their students. Using a train the trainer model Irish Heart Foundation prepares teachers to teach their students.
