SEAI – Climate SOS

Many children are familiar with Guzzler, the friendly monster who wastes energy, from their infant days reading Guzzler's Big Book. Climate SOS is a new book, produced by SEAI, which features Guzzler again, this time with a group of children who call themselves "Super Energy Activists of Ireland".

Climate SOS is a new fiction, illustrated story book that promotes an awareness of climate change in a way that relates to the lives and day-to-day experiences of children. It incorporates nuggets of information about habitats, energy consumption, fossil fuels and carbon dioxide. Children are encouraged to make informed decisions, having become more aware of the impact of their choices throughout the book.  They are invited to act by providing lots of possibilities to consider e.g. An Energy Action Day, Engaging in Energy Challenges.  Above all it emphasises the importance of people power and the value of green energy in our transition to a more sustainable society.

The team who developed the book was led by Dr Orla Kelly of the DCU Institute of Education, St Patrick’s Campus. It was written by Lucinda Jacobs and illustrated by Alan Nolan.

The book is aimed at children in senior classes at primary school. Class sets are available to borrow from local libraries or you can contact This email address is being protected from spambots.
