The Young Chef of the Year ( YCOTY )

The Young Chef of the Year (YCOTY) award is an online resource written by teachers for teachers. It covers Food and Nutrition within the classroom, as set out in the Social Personal and Health Education Curriculum (SPHE Curriculum 1999). It is aimed at pupils in 5th and 6th Classes and features Ireland's Michelin Star Chef Aidan Mc Grath presenting all the teaching videos. In 2019, we successfully piloted the award at two Limerick Primary schools under the tutelage of Evelyn Hartigan, a teacher at St Patrick's GNS. We featured in the November/ December 2020 edition of Intouch Magazine, an article entitled 'Inspiring the inner chef' and as a consequence, two Dublin schools have recently signed up to deliver the award. The Nutritional Therapists of Ireland (NTOI) have announced their support for the Irish Young Chef of the Year Award for schools (see attachment). Please have a look at our website:

Our most recent resource for Irish Schools is a book entitled 'No Kitchen Cookery for Irish Primary Schools' written by Katharine Tate and mapped to the curriculum by myself. It is designed to support Irish schools to deliver cooking and nutrition inexpensively, within the classroom, with minimal equipment and no heat. The book recently won a Best in the UK award at the prestigious Gourmand World Cookbook Award in the Cooking Schools/Education category. The final to choose the ‘Best in the World’ takes place on Saturday June 5, 2021 at Paris Cookbook Fair, in the Louvre Tuileries Gardens (see attachments for image and background information).
